ECOBAT’s offering extends far beyond lead. Our comprehensive production process and network allows us to offer many supplementary products and derivatives including precious metals.

Via a multi-stage process utilising lead and zinc to separate precious metals, ECOBAT produces a Doré silver containing gold and platinum also known as Güldischsilber. ECOBAT’s BERZELIUS Stolberg (BBH) plant in Germany produces most of our precious metals with the second-highest production capacity for silver in Europe.


In 2014, ECOBAT officially opened a state-of-the-art silver plant on the BBH site, positioning us to separate and supply up to 1,000 tonnes of silver annually. ECOBAT’s production of precious metals is an integral part of our drive to utilise as much as we can from our raw material sources and provide maximum value to our customers.

The Doré silver product made at the BBH Stolberg plant is produced utilising the unique QSL smelting technology and a three-stage refinery process from lead using liquidation, distillation, and conversion steps, utilising vacuum induction and converter furnace technologies.

The QSL process consists of charging lead concentrates and secondary raw materials to a single, self-contained aggregate, and is acknowledged as being one of the most modern and environmentally friendly ways of separating materials from lead concentrate. It is also highly efficient. Silver produced by BBH meets international standards regarding purity and quality.

Once produced on site, the Doré is sold and transported to another location for further purification and separation of gold from silver.

Alongside silver, our lead concentrate separation process also produces around 3,600 kilos of gold per year. The QSL process of separation also produces amounts of platinum. Additionally, utilising QSL technology and other knowhow permits the annual recovery of more than 2,000 tonnes of copper from the lead concentrates as well as Bismuth.
