H. J. Enthoven and Sons (HJE)
With an output of 80,000 tonnes per annum, H. J. Enthoven & Sons (HJE) in the UK is the largest single-site producer of recycled lead in Europe.
Based in Matlock, Derbyshire, HJE produces a range of high-purity lead, lead-antimony, lead-calcium and lead-tin-calcium alloy in ingot form. The facility also produces continuously cast lead-calcium and lead-tin-calcium alloy strip for the production of modern battery types.
HJE is also a producer of polypropylene derived from battery cases supplied via a closed-loop recycling system, allowing for a consistent quality finished product. The facility produces and supplies around 5,000 tonnes of polypropylene annually to a range of specialist industries.
HJE is at the cutting edge of lead recycling and utilises the best available technologies throughout its processing operations, combining energy efficiency, good productivity and high environmental standards.
The facility’s onsite battery recycling system is capable of processing in excess of 150,000 tonnes per annum of automotive, industrial and standby lead batteries. Utilising two types of furnaces, the facility combines high throughput rates with flexibility and excellent environmental control.
A flue gas desulphurisation plant eliminates acid gas emissions and produces a high purity gypsum product for resale, part of ECOBAT’s commitment to utilise everything we can from our processes and maximise the value we provide.
As part of the ECOBAT Technologies group, HJE takes a proactive approach to its environmental responsibilities. Holding both an Environmental Permit and Approved Battery Treatment Operator certification, and compliant to ISO 9001, 45001, 50001 & 14001, HJE is committed to driving the lead industry to a brighter, greener future.
